- I'm currently on a 12 month Leave of Absence from my job at Xilinx. I worked hard to get a major program approved and needed a break from the stress. I took a 12 month LOA back in 1998 and had a wonderful time, getting to know my family again. This time around, it’s more about getting to know me. I have found it difficult to carve out the time necessary to do some thoughtful reflection about myself and how I fit in the world. There have been many major changes in my personal life recently, getting divorced 3 years ago, spending a lot of time with my girlfriend, Jamie, and then breaking up in Dec '07. Having time off will (I hope), provide me with some good non-work stimulation and also give me a chance to do some self reflection and figure out what is most important to me over the next few years. This will likely have a major impact on my personal and professional life. (Aug ’08 update – Jamie and I are back together and our respective journeys during our time apart has given us new insights about ourselves and each other that I believe will result in us being together for a long, long time.)
